How does the anagram solver work?
Enter the letters you have. Every word that can be built from them is returned, longest first. The rack may have letters left over — tick the exact box if you want only words that use all of them.
What does the ? do?
It stands for a letter you do not have or do not know, which is the usual crossword case: you have four of the six squares filled and need something that fits. Up to six may be used.

Every answer that has appeared in a puzzle tracked on this site. That makes it a crossword dictionary rather than a general one — it knows the crosswordese a normal word list buries, and it grows with every grid ingested.
Can it solve a clue instead of letters?
Yes, but through a different page. The clue database searches by wording rather than by letters, and it is the better route when you have the clue and no squares filled.
